Heading east a kilometre or so from Almuñécar along the seafront, past the aquapark, you'll arrive at the beach of Velilla which stretches for 2 km as far as the district of Taramay.

Steep cliffs drop almost to the water's edge and there is little room for the ribbon development of large apartment blocks that now lines the paseo. However, views along the coast to Salobreña and Motril are stunning from almost all the buildings and the area is very busy in summer with a seasonal infrastructure of shops, bars and restaurants that opens for visitors. Most services are available but parking can be very difficult when it's busy.
