Solynieve Ski Resort

High in the Sierra Nevada, less than 35 km from Granada and only two hours drive from the coast, lies the winter sport's resort of Solynieve. This is Europe's most southerly ski venue and site of the 1996 World Ski Championships.
Lifts and cable cars connect the resort, at 2,100 m, to the second highest peak in Spain, Veleta, standing at 3,398 m.
There's a good choice of accommodation if you want to stay the night, with more than a dozen hotels to choose from and the choice of eating places is reasonable. Prices for most things are usually higher than in the city but cheap compared to other European winter resorts. Solynieve is above the treeline and surrounding countryside is open and panoramic with occasional small lagoons.
