Hotels
Hotels in Almuñecar and La Herradura offer a varied selection of
accommodation and services. Highest category in the area is 4*. Traditionally,
most establishments were small family hotels suitable for the independent
traveller, but over the last few years a number of large 4-star hotel
complexes have opened in the area, offering a different type of tourism
based, principally, on the package holiday.
| We recommend that you book your accommodation well
in advance if you're planning on visiting the area during the peak
season (July-August), Easter Week or over Christmas. During these
dates hotel occupation is normally 100%. |

Hostals
& Pensions
If the hotels are full, or if you'd prefer more
budget accommodation, there are numerous hostals and pensions to choose
from. Many of the smaller ones are closed out of season.

Tourist
Apartments
Self-catering tourist apartments are available,
and most are located on Almuñécar's seafront paseo. The
larger complexes are to be found on the beaches of San Cristóbal
and Velilla. Apartments are normally either
1 or 2 bedroomed, or studios. 3 bedroomed apartments can only be found
at one or two places.

Property
Rentals
Independent travellers may prefer to rent a privately-owned
apartment or chalet for their visit. There are numerous rental agencies
that deal with such properties, from small studio flats to large detached
villas with garden, pool and self-contained services.
| Large properties are in great demand during summer
and mid-season, and prices can be high depending on the services offered.
Often such places are booked a year in advance so we advise you to
plan ahead as much as possible so as to avoid disappointment. |
Most large properties
are rented with full services, such as gardening, cleaning and pool maintenance,
although this may depend on the terms of the agreement. Occasional cooks
or babysitters can usually be arranged with the agency.

Rural
Accommodation
Rural tourism is fairly new to the area and we
could only find a couple of places which we would describe as offering
a bed for the night in the countryside. The largest, Peña
Escrita, can be found high in the hills behind La Herradura. This
is a municipally owned protected area which rents out log cabins for up
to 8 people for the night. It's almost an hour's drive from the coast.
\
Rural Accommodation
Otherwise, for a rustic holiday, we suggest you
try and rent a self-catering country property from one of the real estate
agencies in town.

Activities
with Accommodation
Booking a Spanish language course normally includes
accommodation, often at reduced prices. It should also include a choice
of planned extra-curricula activities for the students, and this can be
an excellent way to get to know the local town and culture.
\
Language Schools
Similarly, agencies or clubs offering
certain sports programs and training courses may also arrange your accommodation
for you.
